Women in Sports Tech Awards Fifteen Summer Fellowships

Today, Women in Sports Tech, Inc. (WiST) announced that they have awarded a record 15 summer fellowships to female students from Harvard, University of North Carolina, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and University of San Francisco to name a few. These fellowships are in the form of $5,000 grants for students to pursue summer projects in sports technology. This year’s total number of awards has nearly quadrupled from 2019, when WiST gave out four awards.

2019 Women in Sports Tech Fellowships Awarded

Women in Sports Tech, Inc. (WiST) announces 2019 WiST Fellows, female students who will receive funding in the form of $5,000 grants to support their summer projects working in sports technology. They will work with organizations including global running shoe brand Brooks Running, a leading sports industry intelligence firm Turnkey Intelligence, the U.S. Army Special Operations Forces and the sports tech startup called Learn To Win founded by two Stanford Graduate School of Business students.

Women In Sports Tech Nonprofit Launches With Funded Fellowships

As a veteran executive of several sports technology companies, both startup and established, Marilou McFarlane would go weeks on end of business meetings without seeing another woman. She said that experience hasn’t been personally problematic, per se, but the realization was striking and the homogeny outdated. Wanting to empower more women to seek out sports tech as a career path, McFarlane, currently an adviser to Shotzoom and performance tech consultant to NCAA teams, has teamed with Deborah Stroman, the director of the Center of Sport Business at the University of North Carolina, to co-found a new nonprofit, Women in Sports Tech.
